Remember this post? If not, it was about a big named artist that plans on releasing a new album very similar to how Beyonce did. Well the artist is Mariah Carey. Billboard reports that the singer is taking a surprise approach on the release of her new album which is why nothing has been announced for it. Fans started to worry as the album is supposed to drop two weeks from now.
Mariah will unveil the album's title, cover, track-list, and music all at once via a surprise digital release. Billboard will reveal more this coming Monday. Until then, below you can check out their full published article about the story, what to expect from the project, who she's worked with and much more. As well as my two cents about this entire situation.
SHE'S ASSEMBLED A DREAM-TEAM OF COLLABORATORS. Frequent collaborators Rodney Jerkins and Dupri are back for Album No. 14, but so is a surprisingly diverse roster that ranges from of-the-moment producers like Hit-Boy and Mike Will Made It, guest features from Wale, Nas and Trey Songz and even contributions from veteran arranger Larry Gold and the Love Unlimited Orchestra. There's also "a special guest star that I'm not allowed to reveal," Carey teases.
THE NEW ALBUM WON'T BE HER LAST. Despite recent comments to Bravo's Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" ("If this were to be my last album, people would hear everything they needed to hear"), Carey is not calling it quits anytime soon. "I will always make music. When I said it could be my last, that's because tomorrow's not promised to anyone."SHE'S AWARE OF THE FAILED SINGLES. Carey will cop to a few of the pre-release singles not doing as well as past hits, pausing to note that 2013's Stargate-produced "Almost Home" was intended for the "Oz, Great and Powerful" soundtrack. "You would think I would be all about the singles-driven situation, and I am in a way, but with this particular album I want my fans to hear it as a body of work," she says. "This is my life since we last left off. Just picture a dot dot dot, and then here's the album."
EXPECT BIG BALLADS AND UPTEMPO BANGERS. After immersing herself in her own catalog ("a friend of mine made me a playlist with 1,000 of my songs on it called 'The Ultimate MC Audio Collection,'" she says), Carey explored her feel-good, hip-hop/R&B side as well as her more introspective moments that could give her fans the best of all worlds.
SHE MAY SOON RETURN TO TELEVISION. Her rocky stint with Nicki Minaj on "American Idol" last year notwithstanding, Carey says she'd like her next reality-competition venture to be something where she was executive producer. "I have another project that I'm so very excited about that's finally coming to fruition."
This is exactly why Beyonce made the cover of Time magazine for being one of the most influential people in the world. People are trying her approach to release music. But here's the thing. I said this in my post about the unnamed artist, and I will say it again. Beyonce's album was so successful because of the hype around it and the fact that everyone was waiting for it.
Everyone knew she was shooting videos, she was on tour, she was seen in and out of studios, she did the Super Bowl, she did Pepsi, she did H&M she did SOOOOO much and just had the world waiting on an official album release date, a single or anything. The anticipation was there for her. Ain't nobody anticipating the release of Mariah Carey's album.
I say that because she's released so many singles over the past few years and each of them failed like a retarded 4th grader. There was "#Beautiful", "Triumphant (Get 'Em)", "Almost Home", "The Art Of Letting Go" and "Eternal (You're Mine)". That's damn near an album of songs, and I'm sure none of them will make the album's cut. Maybe "#Beautiful" but nothing else. Only because it got the radio play and charted.
I like Mariah and all, but this will mark her downfall. This isn't a surprise release and it won't be because now we all know about it. There won' be a surprise to it. Beyonce didn't have a press release, she just dropped the album and no one knew. That's another big difference. Now, we know that some time in may, Mariah Carey will release an album on iTunes....will it be a hit, I highly doubted! If you disagree, sound off below.
This is what her cover will look like....EXCLUSIVE from B!
